Garden Seed Would you believe there is still a store left where you can buy garden seed by the scoop or the pound like Grandpa used to? We will sell you as little or as much as you want or need.

We have the old standards like Blue Lake snap beans, Jackson Wonder butter beans, Truckers Favorite corn to the new ones like Silver King sweet corn, Roma II snap beans and the list goes on. Don’t get suckered into buying those little packs in the other stores where you can’t see what you are getting – come and get a big ole scoop for the same or less money! We also are glad to help you with planting tips you can’t get at a lot of other stores.

We also have salad seeds year ‘round. So if you want a late patch of turnip or collard greens, or an early patch, you can get your seed here. (I guess in this instance, early or late depends on when you started now don’t it?)

Lawn Seed From the good ole stand by – Kentucky 31 Fescue to the latest in lawn seed development Titan Limited we have it all. Bermuda seed for those high traffic areas during the summer and Bulldog Ryegrass for your pastures in the fall and winter, plus many more.

Come in and let us help you decide what is best to plant in the areas you have needing attention. Bring a soil sample with you, too.  We do soil testing onsite for a nominal fee to help you know exactly what nutrients your lawn or pasture needs.

Garden and Bedding Plants

From flowers to veggies, we strive to have the plants you are looking for. If we don’t have it, tell us and we will try our best to find what you need.  We take a lot of pride in the plants we offer you. We have been dealing with the same greenhouse operation for over 17 years. They know how to grow the plants you like and always get them off to a good strong start. Every year we have customers complement us on the quality of our plants and how well looked after they are compared to the other stores.

We are always known for our “gallon tomato plants.” We get them off to a big start so you can beat your neighbor and win the “first tomato” bragging rights. Always look for them to be in around the middle of March and ready for sale.

Our Mum's are growing!  The left hand picture was taken on 1 July 08 and the middle picture was taken 1 Aug 08.  Now, they are starting to bloom!

Fertilizer We feature Miracle Gro, Peters and
Hi Yield water soluble products for your garden and your house plants.  Black Kow Composted Cow Manure is the best bagged manure product on the market today. It is carefully composted to kill any harmful enzymes and to allow beneficial microbes to multiply making it a very gentle fertilizer. A bag of Black Kow isn’t full of sand, you get what you pay for here, a bag of poop! We also feature several soil conditioning products that work as great soil lighteners in heavy clay soils.  We are proud to feature Barrow County’s own product – Jungle Growth, made in Statham! With a starter charge of fertilizer now included, it is now the premier potting soil on the market. We also carry Fafard 3B and 52 mixes and peat moss in large bags for those larger projects.

Don’t forget the old standard – bagged fertilizers! 5-10-15, 10-10-10, 16-4-8, 19-19-19, along with Pecan Tree Fertilizer with extra Zinc and Centipede Fertilizer to feed those light feeding types of grasses. For those specific needs, we also carry Triple Super Phosphate and Potash bagged in 50 pound bags.

Two products we have developed here at The Homeport Farm Mart are the Pete's Pride line of fertilizers available in 10-10-10 and 16-4-8 formulations.  What makes them different than the same formulations available elsewhere?  The answer is complicated, but we will try to keep it simple here. During the 15 years that Terry England, the Homeport owner, was raising truck crops, he constantly tinkered with fertilizer blends to arrive at a product second to none for vegetable gardens.  After he and Cindy bought The Homeport in 1998 he began to look for a manufacturer with strict quality controls to make this unique product.  In 2001, The Homeport teamed up with Tri-State Plant Food in Dothan, Alabama to make the Pete’s Pride line of fertilizers. Most other blended fertilizers you find are filled with rock, we use pelletized lime instead. In a regular 50 pound bag of 10-10-10 fertilizer there is 15 pounds of fertilizer and 35 pounds of rock! In a bag of Pete’s Pride, you have the 15 pounds of fertilizer and lime along with a special formulation of micro nutrients not found in the competitor’s bag.  We also have bagged lime products available in powdered, pelletized, hydrated and athletic varieties. Just in case you need a fast acting product we also have pelletized gypsum available.

We’ll admit, you can find many products out there that are cheaper than those we carry – but remember, you get what you pay for. With your gardens and flower beds, you usually have only one chance a year to get them off to a good start and keep them going, we want to make sure we do all we can to help you with that. Terry and Cindy learned many years ago, the proper inputs in the beginning go a long way toward a successful end result.

Plant Protection Responsibility to our children and their children is what we must keep in mind when using plant and crop protection chemicals.  We have only borrowed this planet from the generations to follow. We advocate responsible use of all plant protection chemicals, whether weed killers, bug killers or fungicides, all must be used as directed on the label.
